Everyone is talking about ultrabooks this year. Many are calling them the PC’s answer to the MacBook Air, and the laptop’s response to tablets. These sleek laptops come equipped with the 2nd Generation of Intel Core Processors, allowing users to experience extreme gaming, enhanced multitasking, and quick responsiveness.

Intel has enlisted the help of Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.i.am to work as their director of creative innovation. In this capacity, he will spend a year traveling to 12 international cities to create 12 original pieces of content as a part of the Intel Ultrabook Project. His 12-city tour kicked off in Tokyo. From there he went on to Las Vegas for the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show in January, and last week he was in Mexico City. On their website, Intel will make available 10,000 downloads of each piece of music he creates.

“We’re thrilled to tap into the limitless creativity Will.i.am brings to the table,” said Deborah Conrad, vice-president and chief marketing officer of Intel, according to a press release. “He’s not only a brilliant artist and producer, but also an innovator pushing the bounds of technology professionally and personally.”

Ultrabooks were originally introduced in 2011, when Intel Capital announced a $300 million Ultrabook Fund to help drive innovation among the super-thin category of laptops. The fund was created to invest in companies that build hardware and software technologies focused on getting people to interact with ultrabooks. Now, they are currently manufactured by Asus, Acer, Lenovo, and Toshiba.

Intel gifted 50 lucky journalists with Asus Zenbook Ux31 Ultrabooks at CES 2012. Along with James Hicks, founder of Tech and Entertainment Group, HicksNewMedia, I was one of the fortunate few to find one taped underneath my seat. (Stay tuned for a full review of the unit in the coming weeks.)

In the meantime, watch the video below to hear Hicks talk about his new Ultrabook:
